WINE MAKER NOTES : The wines of Château MAUCAILLOU are generally sumptuous in color, with a particularly subtle and pleasantly fruity aromatic power; with very ripe, concentrated flavors; harmoniously balanced, full-bodied and generous, all in finesse and elegance. They are "long in the mouth" with a certain "friendliness" which characterizes them and a remarkable aptitude for aging thanks to very fine tannins, but very present.

WINE CRITICS James Suckling (93) : Ample dark toasted spices and rich mocha aromas sit across a wealth of ripe summer berries and lead to a plush palate that has impressive concentration and freshness. Striking liveliness here.

Jeb Dunnuck (90) Already upfront and charming with a complex bouquet of red fruits, underbrush, dusty earth and an almost peppery note, the 2015 Château Maucaillou is elegant and nicely textured on the palate, with terrific depth of fruit. Drink it over the coming 7-10 years.

Wine Enthusiast (90) : The richness and the potential of the ripe fruits promise well for this wine. Considerable barrel aging has marked it at this stage, giving it a spicy character. It suggests this is a wine for aging because the black-plum and berry fruits are nowhere near ready.

ABOUT THE WINE : Château Maucaillou is a food lover's wine and goes beautifully with lamb, game and ripe cheeses. It has aromas of dark fruit (Morello cherry, blackberry and blackcurrant) and mocha, with burnt notes. It is full and creamy in the mouth with ripe and supple tannins and considerable length.

ABOUT THE WINERY Château Maucaillou owes its name to the cadastral description of the land on which it was built in 1875. The vineyard is one of the oldest terroirs in the Médoc. It has a superb position between Margaux and Saint Julien, in the commune of Moulis, in the exact geographic centre of the Haut-Médoc. Its 90 hectares are planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Philippe Dourthe's three children have taken over the family estate and Pascal is now at the helm. Vinification is carried out with scrupulous care in a magnificent winery t fitted with the latest equipment. Château Maucaillou's wines have a fine colour, and are rich in tannins, developing a subtle, fruity aromatic power. Generous and full-bodied, they are long on the palate and have a good capacity to age.
