WINEMAKER NOTES: The resulting wine has both the power and the elegance. The tannins are ripe and silky on the palate. A very nice balance. We can classify this vintage among the classic ones.

TASTING NOTES  The nose is fresh, crisp and exalted aromas of small black berries. A few notes of spices and tobacco distributed in the bouquet a certain elegance. In the mouth, the attack is full and ample. The wine is precise, with firm tannins and well-proportioned acidity. The style is both gourmet and classic. The finish is long and voluminous.

JAMES SUCKLING (94) Plenty of spicy, savory oak influence comes to the fore above a vibrant array of cassis, blackberries and plums. The palate has rich and powerful tannins that roll sturdy and long, carrying plenty of deep cherry and plum flavors. Filled out nicely, but still more to come. Try from 2022.

WINE ENTHUSIAST (94)  This is one of the three biodynamic estates that are owned by Gonzague and Claire Lurton. The wine is generous while also firmly structured in the style of this property. A dense, dry core surrounded by blackberry and black-currant fruit promises great things. It finishes clean, clear and crisp. Drink from 2024.

ABOUT THE WINERY  few explanations about this triple-barrel name: Haut Bages because the property is situated on the hills of Bages, a small hamlet between Pauillac and Saint Julien. Libéral is the name of the family who built up this wining property during the 18th century. Wine brokers from one generation to another, over the years they grouped good plots of deep gravel, the largest of which dominates the Gironde estuary. This Chateau is almost up at the top! Just one small country lane separates the property and the highest point of the appellation. A lane which runs between Haut-Bages-Libéral and Pauillac's famous Chateau Latour. When the Chateau came on the market in 1982, the great names of the Medoc region fought to buy it. The owners of Chasse Spleen were to become the proud owners. Their first vintage was a success, in no way hindered by the fact that 1982 was an exceptional year for Medoc wines. Since then, the quality of the work carried out by the wining team has not slackened and the wine they produce is becoming more and more popular with journalists and professionals of the wine world.
