TASTING NOTES: Loads of sweet tobacco and berry character, with hints of chocolate on the nose. Full body, with meat and earth. Juicy finish. Tannins build on the finish. James Suckling (93). Charming bouquet with a hint of flowers and plums. Suave and very concentrated, but there’s enough acidity to give it drive – a combination of richness and Margaux elegance. Everything is in place. (panel tasting) Decanter (91) .

ABOUT THE WINE  :  This is a classically wrought Margaux from 2ème Grand Cru Classé estate, Château Durfort Vivens. From the superb 2005 vintage, it is composed of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, aged in 45% new oak for 22 months. Black-fruited, mineral and supremely elegant, this is an excellent example of Left Bank Bordeaux ideal for drinking right away.

ABOUT THE WINERY : Proud and hard-working owner Gonzague Lurton appreciated fully this vintage, the perfect conditions meaning the winemaker's involvement was minimal and the wine's classic terroir, in the heart of the appellation, and sheer class come to the fore. The 2005 is very fresh and shows all the Margaux hallmarks of elegance and finesse with beautifully pure fruit and utterly natural with judicious use of oak.  This is almost certainly the best Ch. Durfort Vivens in recent years, and in 2005 it certainly lives up to its deuxième Cru status. Exceptional value for the quality of the wine.
