'TASTING NOTES : Grapes: 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot . 'Very deep crimson. Minerals and interest on the nose. Round and supple and really very gorgeous indeed. I like the lead-pencil character and the coolness. Very refreshing, a complete, fairly forward wine. Skilfully made and beautifully balanced. A very successful Desmirail!' 17/20 points - Jancis Robinson Wine Critic .

WINE CRITICS : 91-92 points James Suckling
Outer quote mark Love the nose with bright cherries and berries. Full body, with very velvety tannins and a dusty, fruity finish. Dried cherry aftertaste. Inner quote mark (4/2011)

91 points Wine Spectator Outer quote mark This has ample stuffing, with layers of plum, red currant and loganberry fruit mixed with notes of bay leaf, warm paving stone and taut red licorice. Charcoal-stained grip coats the finish. Best from 2014 through 2026. Inner quote mark (3/2013)

ABOUT THE WINERY : As is the case with many vineyards, Desmirail is named after one of its former owners. What is unusual about Desmirail is that the property does not bear the name of the original owner, Marguerite Rauzan du Ribail, but of her husband Jean-Baptiste Desmirail. Desmirail is also unusual in terms of its buildings that stand alongside the D2 (the famous Médoc châteaux route). In addition to an elegant 18th century charterhouse, visitors can admire a “Médocain” gravity-operated vat room (from the end of the 19th century), one of the few that has been very well preserved.

A MODERN WINE With A Rich History Since his arrival in 1992, Denis Lurton has chosen to make a wine that is both modern. that can be enjoyed in its youth, and yet retains the elegance and capacity for ageing that are characteristic of Margaux’s wines. He has prolonged the destiny of this property, named after an old French family that had links to wine production in the Médoc as far back as 1741. This was the date that Jean-Baptiste Desmirail, a lawyer in Bordeaux's parliament, gave his name to the property when he received it from his wife, Marguerite Rauzan du Ribail, as part of her dowry.

SUSTAINABLE WINEGROWING We apply sustainable winegrowing principles. For decades we have banned all chemical weed control and insecticides. As a result of this commitment, the property has had High Environmental Value certification since the 2018 vintage. At Desmirail, we take care to preserve the future of our soil. It is therefore ploughed (although not by our horse, Iris) and the vines are treated depending on the weather conditions and the threats of disease. In this way, we adapt to the challenges presented by each vintage.

ABOUT CHATEAU DESMIRAL : Desmirail, a third growth in the 1855 classification, is the fruit of an exceptional terroir in the Margaux appellation, which it represents perfectly with its wonderful elegance and finesse.
Its vinification is carried out using modern techniques and equipment, combined with a respect for tradition, resulting in a wine that can be enjoyed in its youth, but which also has a tremendous capacity to improve with age. Château Desmirail is the product of strict selection and carefully adapted maturing.
