WINEMAKER NOTES :  Ruby-red in color with garnet highlights. Aromas of dried cherries and rose petals are complemented by undertones of violets, licorice, vanilla, and spices. On the palate, this wine is medium-bodied and rich with flavors of tart cherries, rose petals, and hints of truffles with a long, impressive finish. Pair this wine with roasted lamb shank, Bordelaise sauces, and pork torchons.

WINE CRITICS :  James Suckling (93)  Aromas of plums, oranges and cedar follow through to a full body with soft and velvety tannins. A juicy and luscious finish. Made from organically grown grapes.

RP92Robert Parker's Wine Advocate The 2015 Barbaresco offers a textbook rendition of the vintage, executed in an elegant style that was not easy for everyone to achieve across the appellation. Many Barbarescos from this vintage taste a tad overripe, but not this wine. It offers a degree of roundness and plumpness for sure, but it feels contained and elegantly restrained at the same time.

ABOUT THE WINE CHARACTERISTICS "CERTIFIED ORGANIC"
Ceretto Barbera d’Alba Piana is an organic red wine made with the Barbera variety in the D.O.C. Barbera (Italy) by Ceretto. Without a doubt, Ceretto is one of the most prestigious winemaking families in Piedmont. Their work involves a wide variety of vineyards and wineries that have all learnt how to express the majestic landscape of the Langhe hills. Their wines are ecologically certified and made with local varieties that reveal the terroir’s natural attributes. The Ceretto Barbera d’Alba Piana grapes come from a 3-hectare vineyard. These are native variety Barbera grapes that are grown according to ecological principles and in a way that respects the natural balance of the soil. When the grape reaches optimum ripeness, it is harvested manually. When the Ceretto Barbera d’Alba Piana grapes reach the winery, they are selected and vinified at a controlled temperature in stainless steel tanks. The process involves classic fermentation with cap plunges to extract the full freshness and fragrance of the grape. It does not spend any time in wood.Made since 1969, Ceretto Barbera d’Alba Piana is a very pleasant red wine with the fragrance and freshness that is typical of the Piedmont Barbera variety.

ABOUT THE WINERY & PEOPLE : Famed Italian gastronome and intellectual Luigi Veronelli wrote, "The land, the land, the land, the land, always, the land." The Ceretto family has sustained this same philosophy since the sixties when Bruno and Marcello joined their father Riccardo in the family business in Alba. The two brothers' objective was to select vineyards in the most historically important areas for the production of great wines. This idea, spawned by a visit to Burgundy, would prove the wisdom of the Ceretto family, placing their bottles among the greats of enology and elevating Barolo and Barbaresco among the most appreciated and prestigious wines in the world.

The idea was revolutionary at the time for a territory in which the concept of "cru" was completely unknown, but most of all, it was a genial intuition. The most difficult challenge the brothers faced was the encounter with their father who, as was typical at the time, purchased grapes for the wines he vinified. "You are undertaking a difficult course, the land has never made anybody rich," he warned, but Bruno and Marcello did not doubt the potential of the land and stubbornly replied, "We believe in the land 100%. Of course, the cellar counts some as well, but great wines are made from great grapes."

And so, they began dreaming of labels bearing the name of the vineyard and also its image: "so whoever drinks that wine can see the vineyard from which it has originated. The vineyard is history, the names of the hills remain, unchanged over time, enhancing the quality and credibility of the wines produced here. You can search for, visit and physically touch a vineyard… always."
