TASTING NOTES : The aroma offers sweet exotic fruit and perfumed notes of cinnamon and rose. The flavour is velvety full with a great sweetness which is nicely countered by a well-proportioned acidity in the very long aftertaste. Greywacke 2011 is so fresh on the nose, a combination Key lime pie and spiced custard. Smooth and balanced with citrus acidity. Chill and enjoy with spiced honey cake.  ABOUT THE WINE : The grapes for Greywacke Late Harvest Riesling come from vineyards in the Brancott Valley in the Southern Valleys of Marlborough. As the name suggests, these are late harvest grapes, which are also affected by botrytis, the so-called noble rot, which is also known from, from example, Sauternes. The shrivelled raisins are hand-harvested and vinified gently and coolly. .

ABOUT THE WINERY : Named after New Zealand’s prolific bedrock, Greywacke (pron. Greywacky) is the personal venture of Kevin Judd, one of Marlborough’s pioneer winemakers. Sourcing prime fruit from mature vineyards within the central Wairau and Southern Valleys, Kevin uses low-intervention winemaking to create wines hallmarked by their concentration and individuality. Alongside winemaking, Kevin has developed a parallel career in photography, his evocative images appearing in countless publications worldwide. It was inevitable that Kevin’s images would take pride of place on the labels of his solo winemaking venture – the synthesis of his dual passions.
