TERROIR & VINTAGE NOTES : The Travaglini family owns 59 hectares of vineyards; 55 of which are dedicated to vines, primarily Nebbiolo, which covers roughly 50% of the total Gattinara DOCG. A small portion of old vines, is planted to native varieties Vespolina and Bonarda. This small appellation lies in the rocky foothills of the Monte Rosa range, where ventilating winds blow down from the nearby Alps. Soils are rocky and rich in porphyry, granit and iron, imparting a reddish color in the soil. Similar in composition to the Alps, Monte Rosa’s sedimentary rocks is hghly acidic, due to low levels of calcium carbonate and magnesium, and an absence of calcium. Vines grown in this rare soil produce grapes with a unique flavor profile, as well high acdity and tannins. Its northern, mountainous location experiences a continental climate, with very cold winters, warm, sunny summers, and a strong diurnal temperature shift.

ABOUT THE WINERY : Travaglini's story began in the 1920s, when Clemente Travaglini started making wine from grapes grown in his small estate vineyards.Clemente Travaglini was the one who recognised the potential of this region by establishing the first winery in the centre of the city. His passion helped raise Gattinara's status, a commitment that has continued through the following generations. In 1958, Giancarlo Travaglini inherited the company and passion from his father Arturo. This was a year of progress and evolution, not only within Travaglini, but from a viticultural and oenological point of view. Giancarlo, who, thanks to his curiosity, culture and passion, implemented great changes in the cellar and vineyards through pioneering research in this region, in order to improve the methods of viticulture and, therefore, the final quality of the product. 1958 is also the year in which Giancarlo designed and patented the traditional Travaglini bottle or "crooked bottle". 1958 2004 These years represent the greatest changes within Travaglini. The first national and international fairs, the first recognitions and the first awards feed Giancarlo's desire to invest and grow in a developing territory, without ever compromising on quality. During these years, Giancarlo passed his passion on to his daughter Cinzia, who, by his side, embraced the principles on which Travaglini is based, with an eye to the future. Thanks to the analysis of the territory and cellar techniques, some labels were created, and are still part of the Travaglini catalogue today: Gattinara Tre Vigne and Il Sogno. From 2004 up today : The fourth generation, made up of Cinzia Travaglini and Massimo Collauto, has been keeping Giancarlo's memory alive since 2004 by clinging firmly to the solid foundations built by the previous generations, and engaging in research and innovation. They continue the investments and expansions started by Giancarlo in the vineyard and in the cellar. The fifth generation joined the business in 2019. Today, Cinzia, Massimo, Alessia and Carolina spearhead the company, leading Travaglini into the world.
