Rosso di montalcino

Country : Italy
Region : Montalcino
Type : Red
Year : 2017
Volume : 75 cl

WINE MAKER TASTING NOTES : Ruby red and intense colour with violet shimmers. Intense, fresh and fruity scent with the varietals notes of cherry, plums and black cherry. Soft and mineral taste with a good structure and well-balanced tannins."

ROBERT PARKERS 90+ Monica Larner : "Talenti's 2017 Rosso di Montalcino avoids some of the over-ripeness you get in wines from this sunny & hot vintage. A careful approach has been implemented to draw out more of the complexity & depth you get with Sangiovese grown in the celebrated Montalcino appellation. This Rosso is tight & compact with enough inner energy & versatility to pair with your favorite Italian pasta dishes. The wine has the tannins to stand up to hearty foods. Some 22,000 bottles were made. This is a terrific Rosso that I am happy to recommend".---Monica Larner

ABOUT THE WINE : Made from 100% sangiovese grapes coming from different vineyards located on the south-east/west side of Montalcino, at altitudes varying from 250 to 400 m MSL. The southeast soils are made up of sandy loam, with limestone plates and plenty of heavy stone. The wine ages for several months in French and Slavonian oak barrels, and in bottle. Deep ruby red in colour with violet highlights. Intensely fruity and fresh with aroma of cherry, plum and sour cherry. Smooth and mineral on the palate, featuring a good structure with nicely balanced tannins.

ABOUT THE TERROIR & ESTATE: The estate has been developed around an old farm called “Pian di Conte”, not far from Sant’Angelo in Colle, on the southern slope of the municipality of Montalcino, which has been restructured and expanded over the years. The property occupies an area of 40 hectares, among vineyards, olive groves, orchards and seed crops, surrounded by age-old holm-oak woods, characteristic of the Montalcino area.We cultivate and tend our land with respect for tradition, harvesting the grapes and olives by hand. The vineyards are divided into eleven different plots, each with different altitude, exposure and soil composition, creating red wines that are incredibly complex and profound. We have always had a passion for the cultivation of olives which are a very traditional element within the Tuscan landscape. We grow the Correggiolo and Moraiolo varieties, from which a bright green and intensely scented oil is extracted.

ABOUT THE WINERY In the 1950s Pierluigi Talenti moved from Romagna to the gently rolling and sunny hills of Montalcino. After a few years, he decided to acquire the estate and all its lands he had fallen in love with.Through the years, he devoted his time to the clonal research of Sangiovese all over Montalcino, taking his wines to the highest levels of quality. Today, his grandson Riccardo Talenti runs the winery and continues that research with the utmost respect for tradition, working with the very same passion and determination.
